Ý nghĩa khoa học
Người cao tuổi có nhiều yếu tố nguy cơ tim mạch đi kèm, đồng thời cũng có nguy cơ thiếu hụt vitamin B6, B12, acid folic và tăng homocystein máu.
Nhiều nghiên cứu trên thế giới đã chứng minh có mối liên quan giữa nồng độ homocystein
máu và tăng huyết áp. Nghiên cứu của chúng tôi sẽ góp phần bổ sung thêm những chứng cứ khoa học về mối liên quan này, đồng thời đánh giá được hiệu quả điều trị tăng homocystein ở người cao tuổi tăng huyết áp.
Ý nghĩa thực tiễn
Xét nghiệm định lượng nồng độ homocystein máu là một xét nghiệm miễn dịch huỳnh quang có độ chính xác cao, dễ thực hiện, cho ra kết quả nhanh chóng, giúp xác định nồng độ homocystein máu trên từng bệnh nhân.
Khi xác định nồng độ homocystein máu tăng cao, có thể tiến hành điều trị ngay bằng những loại thuốc dễ mua, rẻ tiền nhưng làm giảm được nồng độ homocystein máu.
Đóng góp của luận án
Đề tài “Nghiên cứu nồng độ homocystein máu và hiệu quả điều trị tăng homocystein ở người cao tuổi tăng huyết áp” là nghiên cứu đầu tiên được thực hiện tại Việt Nam góp phần xác định một yếu tố nguy cơ tim mạch mới, đồng thời đánh giá hiệu quả điều trị tăng homocystein ở người cao tuổi tăng huyết áp.

Summary of new scientific contribution of the thesis
Scientific meaning
Elderly people have many risk factors of cardiovascular disease, and are also at risk for deficiency of vitamin B6, B12, folic acid; and hypercholesterolemia.
Many studies worldwide have demonstrated a correlation between homocysteine levels and hypertension. Our research would add to the existing evidence of this correlation, and evaluated the efficacy of treatment for hyperhomocysteinemia in hypertensive elderly.
Practical meaning
Homocysteine test is a immunofluorescence assay that is highly accurate, easy to perform, produces rapid results, helps to determine the levels of homocysteine in each patient.
When elevated homocysteine levels were identified, immediate treatment can be made with inexpensive, easy-to-buy drugs that can reduce homocysteine levels.
Contribution of the thesis
Research entitled “Study on levels of homocysteine and efficacy of treatment for hyperhomocysteinemia in elderly people with hypertension” is the first study conducted in Vietnam to determine a new cardiovascular risk factor and evaluate the efficacy of treatment for hyperhomocysteinemia in elderly patients with hypertensio
